Research Project
Project Title: "The role of a fast payment system in promoting financial inclusion in Brazil"
Supervisors: Prof. Barbara Fritz and Prof. Heike Joebges
Fast payment systems have registered a big development around the globe and are pointed out as a tool to promote financial inclusion. In this regard, the Brazilian fast payment system, named Pix, is taken as a proxy of success in terms of acceptance and increasing financial inclusion.
The Brazilian Central Bank developed Pix in a set of changes in the financial and regulatory landscape to increase competitiveness in the financial system. This research aims to explain if and to what extent Pix contributed to financial inclusion in Brazil, and to assess how deep the financial inclusion fomented by the payment system is.
